Odds and Ends

Remember how I told I went to the ribbon outlet and found some really amazing deals? Well, that was great fun but now I am stuck with the question of how to store and organize it all!

My daughter loves strawberries. So I picked some up when I was grocery shopping. The plastic containers they came in were pretty cute so I washed them out and added them to the pile of “things to recycle for projects” where they sat while I pondered what to do with them.

Sometimes I have three or four projects going at once in varying stages of completion so my entire workspace is cluttered with ribbon, tape, glue, paper, matboard, charms, buttons, etc. At least if I group things in categories I will have a better chance of finding what I need. I started the piles and it occurred to me that the ribbon rolls would probably fit perfectly in the strawberry container. I threaded the ends out through the air vents and it works great. For larger rolls of ribbon, I use some plastic baskets I found at Target on clearance. They are nice and sturdy and I use the same technique of threading the ends though the openings to keep the bolts from unwinding all over the place. I have tried everything- tape, pins, rubber bands, etc. to keep the ribbon tamed and this is the best method I have found so far. My other ribbon is stored by color in flat cardboard Dole trays that I got from CostCo. I made foamboard dividers to keep them in rows. Does anyone out there have a good way to store ribbon that you’d like to share?

Another thing that I find while I am working is that I have lots of paper, ribbon that’s been snipped, threads, all kinds of little pieces of stuff that gets in my way on my work suface. So I took a soda bottle, chopped off the top, and covered it with an old map page. A little trim was added around the top.  This is my new tabletop garbage can. Love it! I empty it when full and my workspace is clear. The only thing that cannot be removed totally is the glitter!

I’d love to hear if you have any cool storage or organizational ideas that you would like to share! Don’t be shy…

what a great idea for the ribbon! I recently completed an online course for organizing your scraproom, where we all shared our organization tips. No one suggested this! Thanks for sharing!!
