It’s a Girl!

Katherine Marie Gaulke has finally arrived! The other bloggers and I here at Memory Keeping Collection decided that it would be fun to SURPRISE our fearless leader, Karen, with a virtual baby shower.  If you click on the other blogs on this site, you will see what my fellow designers have made for little Katherine.

I first met Karen at this past CHA Summer trade show and immediately felt like I had known her for years. She (and her company!) treated us to a delicious dinner in Chicago and we spent some time talking and getting to know each other. We were excited to hear when Cathy let us know that the baby had finally arrived and she  thoughtfully included pictures. I loved this shot of the family- isn’t Katherine a little doll? So sweet. When I saw it, I decided this photo would be the basis for my memory shadowbox. I didn’t know what colors Karen had gone with but it’s hard to go wrong with pink. I chose an off white distressed frame that I had in my frame collection just waiting for a fun project like this. One of the things I most love about designing is working with supplies I have on hand and customizing them to create elegant and unique pieces of art.

I cut two windows in my mat- one for the photo and one for the baby’s information. I offset the openings to one side so there was room to run the ribbon down one side. Ruffles were created by sewing loose stitches down the middle of the ribbon on the sewing machine, then gathering it from either end and taping off on the back of the mat. Paper flowers made from crepe paper, fleece and book pages were added along with buttons, pearls and die cut embossed hearts made from matboard and a piece of Golden Book. I stencilled in white over a doily at the top of the mat and then added some crystal glitter for sparkle. What little girl doesn’t like sparkly stuff? I glued everything down and inserted the whole piece into the frame then added matboard to finish off the back.Karen, I am so happy to hear that you all are doing well and that Katherine arrived on time and healthy! Maybe we can see each other at CHA Winter (perhaps you will have a tiny travelling companion?)

My best wishes to you and your husband for a lifetime of happiness with your new daughter. She is beautiful and you look great!

See you all next week! Join the MKC Facebook page here and see all of the great projects posted each week.

I’m enjoying my time off with little Katie, she is an absolute delight. I cannot imagine my life without her. Without a doubt, becoming a mother has been my greatest accomplishment in life. As Katie grows, I’ll be sure to send pictures. Thank you for being such a dear friend!

Eileen, this is so beautiful! I love the flowers, especially. I have been on a cheesecloth flower-making journey for the last few days, so I can relate. However, I know the master when I see her. I’m not ready to share my inept attempts yet!
